Overview

Fez is the cultural heart of Morocco. Here, you can wander the labyrinthine medina and tanneries, as well as see grand palaces and madrassas

Fez, the cultural and educational center of Morocco, is divided into three parts: Fes el-Bali, Fes Jdid, and the urban Ville Nouvelle. Today, it is under the protection of UNESCO, and since 1980, the city has been actively restored. Here are the attractions you can visit during a tour of Fes organized by our guides:

– Al Attarine Madrasa, a Moorish-style madrasah built in 1325 by Sultan Abu Said Atman. It is distinguished by its refined beauty implemented in glazed tiles, mosaic medallions, finely carved woodwork, and graceful arabesques.

– Nejjarine Fountain, a small fountain that has served as a place for tired travelers to get a drink of water since the 18th century. Your attention will definitely be drawn to the magnificent tiles that line the central part of the fountain.

– Bab Guissa, a mosque located in the old city and is believed to have been built in the 14th century. Next to the mosque is an 18th-century madrasah.

– Chouara, a free-to-visit and the largest tannery in Fes that employs around 500 families. It uses the same techniques and principles of leather processing as a thousand years ago.

– Al Quaraouiyine, founded in 859, is one of the spiritual and educational centers of the Islamic world. It became the alma mater for a number of scientists, philosophers, and theologians who had a significant influence on the development of Muslim and world culture
